Space Race is the competition between nations regarding achievements in the field of space exploration. The first goal of the space race was who can launch the first artificial satellite into space. The Soviet Union was the first country to accomplish the goal of sending Sputnik into space October 4,1957. The United States reaction was that the U.S. feared that the Soviet Union could launch an attack on the U.S. anytime because they had a satellite. Nasa stand for National Aeronauts and Space Administrator, established in 1958, for the purpose to explore the universe and search for life.
On January 31,1958 the United States successfully launched their first satellite to orbit into earth, name of the satellite was Explorer 1. The first human to ever go into space was a man by the name of Yuri Gagarin on April 12,1958. The first American to ever go into space was Alan B. Shepard on May,5,1961. The first American to orbit earth was John Glenn on February 20, 1962. On June 16,1963 a women by the name of Valentina Tereshkova was the first women to go into space. In May,1961 President John F. Kennedy declared "the United States would put the first man on the moon before the end of the decade. The Apollo 11 mission was the shuttle to land on the moon. Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped on the moon on July 20, 1969 at 10:18pm.
