Arms Race is the U.S. and U.S.S.R's race to build up stockpiles of nuclear weapons. The Manhattan Project is the code name for the worlds first ever atomic bomb. The names of the two Japanese cities that were hit with atomic bombs were Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In 1949 the Soviet Union tested their first ever atomic bomb. The major goal of both countries was to develop rockets as a mean to deliver nuclear weapons to it's targets.
The United States developed the H-Bomb in 1952, comparing to the A-bomb this bomb was 2500 times more powerful. In 1953 Russia tested the first Intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The Atlas missile the United States developed in 1957 was a missile that converted into an Alas E/F "Space boosters" and it was used to launch early than it was supposed to. The Minutemen Missile was a 56 foot, 3 stage missile, it was the first ICBM to use solid fuel, it shoots thermonuclear warheads. The United States has 4804 nuclear bombs to this day. Soviet Union and Russia have 1512 nuclear bombs today.
